Why DUO Comfort™ Dual-Density Posture Support?

 

Real comfort doesn’t begin with sitting up straight.
It begins with the pelvis.

Proof of Concept -

When the pelvis is stable and upright, the spine naturally follows its healthy “S” curve.

When it isn’t, posture collapses into a strained “C” shape.


This repeated workplace observation across corporate Australia became the starting point for a design solution:

a dual-density posture-supportive seat engineered to address posture collapse at its source.

When we first introduced our Chair Trial Program in 1989, users living with chronic back pain were offered a

recommended or shortlisted chair - most often a DUO style dual-density posture support chair to TRIAL  in their own place of work.

A consistent pattern of comfort emerged with this DUO style dual-density posture support chair.
Improved posture through an “S” curve with minimal muscular effort. The seat was doing the work.
 

When seated, the pelvis naturally settled into the softer rear section of the seat.
From there, it became gently secured between the firmer front cushion and the lower lumbar support of the backrest.
 

The pelvis, stable, supported and best understood as an inverted triangle, was held in position, allowing the spine to maintain its natural “S” curve with minimal muscular effort.   Rather than holding posture through tension, the body was supported into it.

As posture improved, aggravation reduced.


For the majority of users, lower-back discomfort subsided not through conscious effort, but through sustained, passive support across the working day.

This was the revelation and the early proof of concept that became the foundation of how we approach ergonomic seating today.


The DUO Comfort™ dual-density posture support seat design has since been standard issue across many government, corporate, education and healthcare environments for decades - not only because it is novel, but because it works in real life, over real hours, for real people.
