Designed by Niels Diffrient, the Humanscale Freedom Headrest is an ergonomic task chair that replaces complex chair controls with weight-sensitive, self-adjusting support.
As the user changes position, the backrest and recline respond naturally, while the Dynamic Headrest™ automatically supports the head and neck during recline.

Self-Adjusting Recline - Weight Sensitive and Self Locking
Like most of his chairs designed for Humanscale, Neils Diffrient wanted to design a chair that automatically adapts to the user without the use of levers, tensioning knobs and other controls that are often never utilised. He achieved this through an innovative recline feature that automatically recognises individual body weights and adjusts its own recline function accordingly, creating a truly active based office chair that caters to postural variance throughout the day. In addition to this, the backrest also pivots according to body weight to furthermore increase movement throughout the day.
Contoured Seat and Backrest
The contours of the seat and backrest are designed to follow the natural form of the body, in turn reducing pressure points and promoting even weight distribution.
Articulating Headrest
Not only does the backrest pivot but the headrest also articulates, it moves with the user so they don't have to make manual adjusts to find comfort.
Synchronous Armrests
Unlike other task chairs, the Freedom's armrests are attached to the backrest, catering for continue support during recline.
